The pub exterior in summer

Our Story

A family-run village pub, run with care.

The Six Bells sits in the heart of Newdigate. It's our local and we want it to feel like yours.

A proper welcoming

For locals, families and everyone in between.

The Six Bells is a family run pub, with all on hand to give you a warm welcome. We run the Six Bells as a relaxed, traditional village pub. That means well-kept beer, honest service, and a place that's easy to walk into on your own or with a crowd. Well behaved dogs are welcome throughout and they have a dedicated area in the garden.

Families are always welcome. Cyclists and walkers get a warm towel of a welcome — and a coffee or a Shere Drop, depending on the hour. We work closely with local breweries and suppliers, and we're slowly building a calendar of events that the village can call its own.

The building

Beams, brickwork and a fire that earns its keep.

The pub has been part of the village for generations. We're keeping its character — the beams, the panelling, the open fire — while making sure it works for the way people actually use a pub today.

There has been a building on the site for over 700 years with the pub in place since the 1600's. Originally the Five Bells, it's name changed in 1805 to reflect the additional bell that was added in the church as the Duke of Norfolk brought his money to the village and looked to enhance various elements of village life.

Come and say hello.

The best way to know a pub is to visit it. Reserve a table, drop in for a coffee, or come for one of our events.
